The Voyage Audio Spatial Mic is a professional second-order ambisonics VR microphone designed for audio engineers, game sound designers, AR/VR producers, and 3D audio pioneers. It can connect to a computer or mobile device via a single wire. It uses eight 14mm condenser capsules to record in 360 degrees, letting the sound your viewers hear alter as they walk and gaze around in a VR or 360° film.

The Spatial Mic’s novel design simplifies the recording workflow associated with multi-channel microphone arrays. It uses a built-in USB and ADAT Lightpipe connection, so no extra mic preamps, multi-channel cables transmitting analog signals, or converters are required. Live headphone monitoring is provided. Each microphone stores a calibration profile to guarantee that the signal is consistently pure. USB recording quality goes up to 24-bit/96 kHz.

The microphone works in conjunction with three strong apps (free downloads available separately). When used in postproduction, the Spatial Mic Converter DAW plug-in (AU, VST3, AAX, Mac OS, and Windows 10) converts the raw capsule output to first- or second-order ambisonic in AmbiX or Fuma formats, allowing you to change the microphone’s aim to the point in space where the audio was originally recorded. The Spatial Mic Control software enables remote operation of all hardware controls and more (Mac OS and Windows 10). The Spatial Record app allows you to record and play high-quality multichannel audio on the move (Mac OS, Windows 10, and iOS).

The Spatial Mic is lightweight, small, and sturdy, with a high-quality aluminum and nylon construction that makes it suitable for recording in the studio or on location. The mic may be charged by a computer via USB Type-C or, for use with mobile devices, by an additional battery bank (sold separately) via micro USB.
The Spatial Mic ships with a USB-C to USB-A connection, a metal 1/4″-20 to 5/8″-27 small swivel ball for firm mounting to a microphone stand, and a foam windscreen to get you started recording right away.

Simplified 360-degree Process

•  The Spatial Mic’s front panel features a knob and LED display for easy control of analog mic gain, mute, monitor mix (live and computer playback), and headphone output level.
•  Use the Spatial Mic Manipulate app to remotely manipulate various metering modes, including individual capsule signals and stereo monitor levels, on the front LED display.
•  The microphone output may be head-tracked and integrated with multimedia distribution technologies like YouTube, Facebook, and Google Resonance SDK.
• Google Resonance HRTFs (44.1 and 48 kHz) provide live binaural monitoring, as does live Mid-Side monitoring (88.2 and 96 kHz).
•  The mic has a 1/4-20 thread mount on the rear and can be mounted to a regular microphone stand with the provided ball head mount.
