A Renewed Spectacle of 10-Band Analog Processing

The Moog Spectravox, which was unveiled exclusively for Moogfest 2019 engineer pass holders, quickly became a favorite among numerous discriminating synthesists at Sweetwater. To their astonishment, its redesigned shape and functionality are now ready to be incorporated into any synthesis rig, retaining Moog’s trademark fat analog flavor and featuring a set of iconic and adaptable parameter knobs.

It all starts with an internal VCO, spectral shift controls, and a plethora of program input choices, allowing the Spectravox to produce a wide range of sounds, from molded ambient drones to distinctive vocoder patches and more. Similarly, a 3.5 mm patchbay provides smooth access to numerous internal and external sound controls, as well as a 1/4-inch XLR combo input for microphone, instrument, and other sound source processing. With a bundled 12V power supply and pro-designed preset overlays from Moog’s patching gurus, Spectravox has never been better prepared to add proprietary audio processing to practically any instrument foundation in the books.

Beginning with the processor’s internal VCO and 1/4-inch XLR combo input, the core of the Moog Spectravox is its 10-band filter bank, which expands sonic capabilities from basic signal tuning to complicated modulated filtering schemes and everything in between. With front-panel spectral shift, VCO, and envelope controls, creating colorful spectral drones, individualized vocoder voices, and ambient sweeps is simple, with plenty of opportunity for further audial exploration. With a built-in envelope generator and increased rig compatibility, the Spectravox is more than just a spectrum processor; it’s also a standalone synth, CV filter bank, and vocoder!

Patch into any existing Eurorack rig.

The Spectravox has 36 3.5 mm patch bay ports, allowing for smooth integration into a wide range of Eurorack and electronic instrument systems. These include typical connections to the processor’s VCO, LFO, envelope generator, and other components, allowing for a wide range of sound sculpting routes both within and outside of the Spectravox’s internal controls. What? No rig? No worries: Sweetwater synthesists have discovered that Spectravox’s onboard VCO and white noise generators, an onboard program input, and the accompanying 12V DC power supply give more than enough standalone instrumental possibilities right out of the box.
